NEW UPDATED INFORMATION ON AUTUMN 2007 COURSES

PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT CHANGES TO THE COURSES DUE TO START THIS OCTOBER 2007.

Changes to Groups

WEA are being particularly strict this year about having a minimum of twelve students in each group. Unfortunately this means that the advanced group will not now run until March 2008 which means we may not be able to cover sufficient material for students to take their GCSE Arabic exam in May 2008.

New Beginners Group

The good news is however that we will now be able to run a course for beginners in October as there has been a lot of interest from students wishing to study at that level. Details of each group are given below.

Course Information

Two new Arabic courses for Adults will be run by WEA , starting October 2007. Each course will consist of fifteen, 2-hour sessions. We will be breaking for half term and the Christmas Holidays. Two levels are currently available. Please contact the tutor if you have any doubts about your suitability for a particular group. A minimum of 12 students are required in each group, in order for the course to run.

Beginners Level

The Beginners group is suitable for those with either no previous knowlege of the language, or those who are familiar with the script but have not studied the language formally before. Topics covered in this course will include 1) The script and correct pronunciation of the Arabic Letters 2) Meeting and Greeting 3) Gender 4) Adjectives 5) Pronouns 6) Prepositions 7) People and Places 8) Food and Drink.

This group will be starting on Monday the 29th of October 2007 and classes will continue every Monday between 7 and 9 pm.

Intermediate Level

This group is designed for those with a good knowlege of the Arabic script and who are familiar with basic grammatical concepts. Students joining this group should ideally have studied Arabic part-time for at least a year and should have a basic understanding of gender, adjectives and pronouns and should have some basic conversational skills.

The Intermediate group will be starting on Tuesday the 30th October 2007 and classes will continue every Tuesday between 7 and 9 pm.

I'm not sure which group to go for.....

There will be a small amount of overlap between the two levels and it may not be clear from the outset which group suits you best. This may to a large extent depend on your aptitude for languages and on whether or not you are willing to do some catch-up work independantly at home.

If you have studied some Arabic before and are not sure whether to opt for the beginners group or the intermediate one, then you may be able to sit in on the first three lessons of each before committing to a level. You will still have to register for one of the levels at the first session, but if you decide to move groups then your fee and registration will be transferrable. If you would like to sit on on both groups for the first three weeks then please discuss this with me first by contacting me at arabicclub@hotmail.com.
